Our Pre-School

Our qualified practitioners provide stimulating and exciting resources to enhance children’s learning through their play experiences. We provide a wide range of specially chosen toys, play and craft equipment for both indoors and outside play. Key Practitioners have a sound knowledge of their key children’s interests and use this information to inform their planning. We provide lots of other experiences for the children also including - singing, reading, puzzles, role play and small world.

We are fortunate to have an amazing outdoor area with specialist play equipment which includes a large sand pit, large construction area and role play zones, a mud kitchen and water play area. We have use of the school playground for bikes and scooters and beautiful allotment area for gardening opportunities.

Our pre-school is on the same site as as Milford-on-Sea Primary School which has allowed us to build great relationships with the staff and children. This allows us to make the transition from pre-school to Milford Primary School as smooth as possible.

We follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage which has the child’s future and best interests at it’s core. Our daily and weekly planning is structured by the four guiding principles for early years settings which are as follows:

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured

  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships

  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers

  • Importance of learning and development. Children develop and learn at different rates, including children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). - ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2023’

We deliver the EYFS curriculum in holistic, stimulating and immersive way, always leading from the children’s interests whilst covering the seven areas of learning and development. This is made up of the prime areas -communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development and the specific areas - literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

We share the children’s learning with our parents via observations on Tapestry and a fortnightly newsletter which is sent home with the children and is also now available in our private blog area on our website.

“At Hungry Moose catering we promote healthy living and our team of passionate nursery chefs cook fresh healthy homemade nutritious meals to encourage a balanced healthy diet.”

Our hot meals are provided by a local company called HungryMoose. The meals are prepared off site and are delivered to us daily in thermal boxes. Heres what they have to say about the ingredients used in their meals…

“All of our ingredients are sourced from local suppliers using ethical and sustainable British farm to fork quality assured meats, sustainable MSC fish stocks, free range eggs and fresh seasonal vegetables and fruit. We understand that as childcare providers, parents look to you to provide their precious little ones with only the highest quality meals, so here at HungryMoose we will support your setting in doing exactly that! All our ingredients are inspired by the season which makes it easy to source them fresh and locally. Our experts create both Summer and Winter menus which are offered to you on a three week rotation. HungryMoose provide well balanced nutritious, freshly cooked meals catering for all individual, cultural & dietary needs. At HungryMoose we do not add any sugar or salt to our food. We like let the ingredients speak for themselves, only using a selection of herbs and spices to enhance the natural flavours of the food. We believe that our commitment in offering freshly cooked tasty meals seasoned with spoonfuls of passion and a sprinkling of fun provide children with the fuel they need to tackle each day.”

If your child has any allergies you will be required to complete a detailed form provided by Hungry Moose Catering. Your child’s meal will be prepared under strict guidance according to their needs. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this please email us at office@milfordpreschoolplus.co.uk

Choosing hot meals and Payment

If you would like to opt in to our hot meals option then you will be charged £2.70 per meal. This will be added to your monthly invoice. If you no longer wish for your child to have hot lunches then you must give a months notice before opting out.

Unfortunately unlike at school, children aged under 4 are not eligible for free school meals. However if you are in receipt of pupil premium funding then we would be happy to use some of this to pay for your pre-school meals. Please speak to the business manager regarding this.
